History and restoration
Nel villaggio Ondre Tschossil di Gressoney-Saint-Jean, in Valle d’Aosta, ai piedi del massiccio del Monte Rosa,
inserito in un antico villaggio costituito da abitazioni del XVI e XVII secolo, si trova questa bellissima dimora storica.
Antica costruzione walser, costituita da due porzioni lignee, unite nel corso del XIX secolo a formare un’unica abitazione di tipo signorile. L’impianto della porzione nord è settecentesco, datato al colmo 1783, mentre il secondo raccard riporta il millesimo 1863.
L’edificio sottoposto a tutela da parte della Regione Autonoma Valle d’Aosta, è oggetto di un restauro filologicamente corretto, finalizzato a mantenere inalterata la valenza storica e architettonica del costruito.
The wonderful historic home of Lòò Bach is located at the foot of the Monte Rosa’s range in the region called Aosta Valley, in a Gressoney-Saint-Jean’s ancient hamlet named Ondre Tschossil, composed of buildings dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries.
As an ancient Walser construction, the house was composed by two wooden portions, united in the 19th century to become a single, stately home. The date carved on the ridgepole, 1783, attests that the structure of the northern portion is from the 18th century, whereas the second raccard dates back to the year 1863.
The building, now under protection of the Valle d’Aosta regional laws, will undergo a philologically thorough restoration, designed to keep intact the historical and architectural characteristics of the edifice.

Appartamento posto al piano terreno completamente arredato e confortevole, presenta vani rivestiti in tavolato di larice naturale, spazzolato e trattato con cere naturali: una stanza di soggiorno-cucina ben illuminata, una camera da letto e un servizio igienico con doppia finestra. Particolarità: il recupero delle meravigliose lastre di pietra grigia naturale rendono la zona d’ingresso-disimpegno unica e di grande pregio architettonico, adatta perfettamente alle esigenze degli sportivi, con comunicazione diretta del vano con lo spazio verde privato.
The unit, small but absolutely comfortable, is located at ground level and features rooms cladded with larch wood planks polished and treated with natural waxes: a well-lit dining room, one bedroom and one bathroom with two windows. Here is one peculiarity: the salvaged, wonderful grey stone slabs make the areas of entrance and hallway unique and of great architectural value. The apartment is perfectly suited for the needs of athletes, thanks to the simplicity in stowing boots, skis and wet equipment. Moreover, the direct connection of the room with the private green space will be particularly useful for athletes, who will find this solution convenient to manage their equipment.
L’unità, al primo piano, è stata ricavata all’interno di un antico raccard in travi di larice unite con il tipico incastro a mezzo legno. La bellezza e la particolarità dello spazio abitativo sono immediatamente leggibili: la struttura lignea esterna è stata integralmente mantenuta e rivestita internamente con un caldo guscio in tavolato di larice. L’articolazione dell’unità segue gli incastri dei legni, offrendo uno spazio comodo ma di grande carattere. L’ingresso si apre su un ambiente di soggiorno caratterizzato da una bella scala che porta alle camere del livello superiore, in un meraviglioso gioco di incastri di travi e tavolato.
I servizi igienici sono doppi, pavimentati in pietra, con finestra e antibagno. L’unità dispone inoltre di un terrazzo privato e di un balcone in legno con vista verso il torrente Lys e la bella cascata di Lòò.
Dwelling obtained from the old portion of the nineteenth century in larch wood beams joint together by “halving”. The beauty and peculiarity of the
apartment are evident: the antique wooden structure, entirely panelled in larch wood planks, offers a comfortable and unique space. The entrance opens up on the living room, which is characterized by a beautiful staircase headed to the upper level rooms making a wonderful interplay of beams and planks. The two windowed bathrooms are paved in stone and preceded by an anteroom. The unit features a private terrace and a wooden balcony that provides a view of the river Lys and the beautiful Lòò cascade.
L’unità completamente arredata si raggiunge al primo piano percorrendo la meravigliosa scala ottocentesca in larice, eseguita con grande perizia da artigiani del tempo. Lo spazio abitativo presenta un ingresso che permette di avere una vista particolare sulla bella boiserie in legno di larice che riveste le pareti. I pannelli ottocenteschi, originali della casa, restaurati e ricollocati con grande cura, rendono lo spazio caldo e piacevole al tatto. L’ingresso si apre su una zona giorno luminosa e curata; l’unità è di piccole dimensioni, composta da soggiorno, piccolo angolo cottura, una camera e bagno, ma è avvolta completamente in un caldo guscio di legno, che ne fa un taglio ideale per lo sportivo che desidera avere tutti i comfort in un comodo spazio contenuto.
The unit can be reached on the second floor following a wonderful larch wood staircase masterfully crafted by artisans of the nineteenth century. The living space has an entrance that provide a particular view on the beautiful larch wood panels covering the walls. The original nineteenth century panels, restored and relocated with great care, make the space warm and pleasant. The entrance opens up on a bright living area; the small unit is composed by a living room, a small kitchenette, one bedroom and one bathroom, but it is completely wrapped by a warm wooden shell, which makes it an ideal arrangement for athletes who want to have all the comforts in a small convenient space.
Lo spazio abitativo si presenta avvolto da una bellissima boiserie originale in larice, composta da pannelli dalla semplice geometria. I pavimenti di larice antico, restaurati e ricollocati nelle sale, accolgono con un caldo abbraccio padroni e ospiti. Il soggiorno-cucina, grande e luminoso, è caratterizzato dalla presenza di una parete-contenitore ottocentesca. La scala in legno posta sulla parete di fondo del vano soggiorno è un elemento architettonico di valore e porta alla scoperta di una meravigliosa e romantica camera posta nel piano sottotetto. All’incrocio di travature in larice e capriate che convergono creando un’atmosfera di grande effetto, la camera padronale e il servizio, che si raggiunge attraverso un insolito passaggio creato dai puntoni di una capriata originale, diventano spazi di assoluto romanticismo.
The living space is wrapped in a beautiful original larch wood boiserie, composed of geometrically simple panels. The antique larch wood floor, restored and relocated in the rooms, welcomes owners and hosts you with a warm embrace. The large and bright kitchen-living room is characterized by the presence of a nineteenth century container-wall. The wooden ladder placed on the back wall of the living room is an architectural element of great value and leads to a wonderful and romantic room in the attic. At the intersection of larch beams and trusses, converging to create an impressive atmosphere, the master bedroom and the bathroom, reachable through an unusual pas-sage created by the struts of an original truss, become spaces of absolute romance.
Lo spazio abitativo più articolato e particolare dell’immobile: la grande capriata lignea è divenuta il perno sul quale è stata accentrata la progettazione. La doppia scala in legno a vista che affianca la capriata rende lo spazio particolarmente vivo e movimentato. Il vuoto in affaccio sul soggiorno, le camere da letto poste all’incrocio delle membrature di larice originale fanno di questa unità il gioiello dell’intera costruzione. I tre bagni e le due camere da letto, rendono ideale questa metratura anche per una famiglia numerosa, o per padroni che amano ospitare amici in tutta comodità e privacy. Le finiture interamente realizzate in tavolato di larice e travature originali rendono lo spazio una complessa e originale scatola ad incastro, calda e accogliente nel più autentico spirito montano.
The most articulated and original unit of the entire building: the large wooden truss is a pivot around which the planning of the entire apartment has been developed. The double wooden staircase that flanks the truss makes the space very bright and dinamic. The void overlooking the living room and the bedrooms placed at the intersection of the larch wood members make this unit the jewel of the entire building. The three bathrooms and the three bedrooms make the apartment ideal for a large family or for owners who like to entertain friends in all comfort and privacy. Given its position, the residence provides easy access to several activities, ranging from winter sports to summer hikings. From Ondre Tschossil the trails branch off heading to the Colle di Loo, an ancient path to the Valsesia.
A poco più di un km, a una sola fermata di bus, troviamo la stazione sciistica Weissmatten con illuminazione notturna, il meraviglioso Snow Park, la piscina coperta, il golf, la pista di Fondo, numerosi itinerari di sci alpinismo, ice climbing, free-ride e down-hill e a pochi minuti di strada si snodano i 180 km di piste del domaine skiable Monterosa Ski.
A little more than 1 km away – a single bus stop – you can find the Weissmatten ski resort with its nighttime illuminated ski slopes, the beautiful Snow Park, the indoor swimming pool, a golf course, a cross-country ski track, many ski mountaineering itineraries, ice climbing, free-ride and down-hill. In just a few more minutes by car, 180 km of ski slopes wind their way through the mountains.
